Where's my brother???

Since we first got pregnant last summer Caden has been talking about his baby brother. When we lost that pregnancy this last fall he was really confused but confident his brother was still coming. So when we got pregnant again he was certain that this time a baby brother would be the reward for his patience. He was so certain that we all were certain. It seemed mearly a medical necessity to even do the ultra sound because we knew the little boy inside of me was meant to come to our family. So when the ultrasound technician gave typed "GIRL" on screen and said she was 95% certain the we would again be blessed with a little princess, we were a bit taken aback. No one more so than Caden. He sat quietly as the news was delivered, hung his head until our family was alone in the room, then flung himself against me and started crying. There was no consolation for my little man. He just kept saying, "where did my brother go?". It was enough to break our hearts and launch us into an explanation that involved heaven and God's infinite wisdom in our lives and what an amazing brother he is his sister and how this little girl couldn't wait to be his little sister too.

He was so distraught that Jon had to carry him out of the doctors office. When we got to the lobby the receptionists who had chatted with us while we waited took one look at Caden and said, "oh, its a girl". I tried to cheer him up by offering to finish the puzzle he'd started before we went back and all he would say is, "no, I'm too mad".

Well, its been a little over a month now since the news was delivered and I'd like to say that our little boy is on board for being the only brother in our home but he isn't quite there yet. He still asks if random babies or children we associate with can be his brother. The other night he asked Jon very solemnly, "daddy, is this baby girl going to be a teaser?". Apparently Ella has taught him to be wary of girls. So many life lessons for this little 5 year old to take in. By the way, Ella was thrilled that we are having a girl. She said that they could be princesses together, this did not reassure Caden at all.

Congratulations on another girl! Poor Caden, it is hard to be so sure and then disappointed. He is such a good big brother I know this little girl will be so lucky to have him.

Sweet Caden! I feel sorry for the kiddo but at the same time I am just happy that you are having a healthy child no matter what the sex. He will get over it when he meets her and she looks up at him with her big Bartlett eyes and he falls in love with her. It will happen. Good luck till then!!!

Oh, poor Caden! (just don't tell him I'm laughing right now). Congrats to all of you on a new little daughter coming! Do you have a name picked out? When are you due exactly? By the way Shama, you look fabulous! :)

What sweet/sad pictures! Adam was not pleased when he found out he was having a second sister. He finally said, "Oh well, I suppose she'll be pretty cute."

When he found out we'd CHOSEN to have a third sister, he was a little ticked. He still says he'd love a brother, but a 16 year age difference would be a bit much! Besides, he sees the benefit of getting his own room!
